A mass shooting outside New Orleans' Republic NOLA nightclub in the Warehouse District left one woman, identified as Jezreel Aquilla Poleate, 24, dead and 11 others injured on April 14, according to multiple reports.
The incident occurred just before midnight at the club located on South Peters Street. Police are investigating the shooting and have yet to release information about a motive or description of possible shooter(s).
Five men and six women were among those injured in the shooting, according to reports from NBC News, WDSU, Fox8live, and Axios.
The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) confirmed that officers found Poleate lying on the sidewalk with fatal gunshot wounds. The other victims arrived at University Medical Center or Ochsner Medical Center's West Bank campus seeking treatment for their injuries.
Republic NOLA owner Nick Thomas stated that all staff members were safe but declined to comment further, according to WWL.
The shooting took place during the Church on Sundaze event inside the nightclub, as per an Instagram story posted seven hours before the incident on the Church on Sundaze page. The NOPD has padlocked Republic NOLA in accordance with their ordinance following shootings at or near establishments.
New Orleans Police Supt. Anne Kirkpatrick and Mayor LaToya Cantrell expressed condolences for the victims and their families, urging common-sense gun reform measures and violence reduction programs in the community.
Gov. Jeff Landry also offered his condolences, stating that this type of violence has no place in Louisiana.
