June 7, 2024

The University of Oklahoma Sooners made history on Thursday night by winning the Women's College World Series for the fourth consecutive year. The team defeated rival Texas in a thrilling championship series, with standout performances from seniors Jayda Coleman and Tiare Jennings.

In Game 1, Kelly Maxwell pitched a complete game victory as Oklahoma won 8-3. In Game 2, Cydney Sanders cleared the bases with a double in the fourth inning to put the Sooners ahead for good. The team set an NCAA record for most consecutive wins and had a near-perfect season at 61-1 last year.

Five standout Oklahoma seniors – Coleman, Jennings, Kinzie Hansen, Nicole May and Rylie Boone – were part of every national championship team during the four-peat. They join an elite group of women who have won four national championships in their college careers.

Oklahoma coach Patty Gasso expressed her pride in the team's accomplishments, saying, “We work hard. We do it blue-collar style. We fight. We're gritty. There's nothing we feel that we can't overcome and that's why we go out and we just play free.”

The Sooners have now won eight national championships under Gasso since 2000, making them one of the most dominant teams in Women's College World Series history. Oklahoma fans celebrated the historic win with excitement and pride, knowing that their team had achieved something truly remarkable.
