Oracle, a leading technology company, has announced that it will relocate its world headquarters to Nashville, Tennessee. The decision was made by Oracle's chairman and co-founder Larry Ellison during an interview at a health care industry summit in the city. The move comes after Oracle's acquisition of health care technology company Cerner for $28.3 billion in summer 2022.
Nashville was chosen as the new headquarters due to its unique culture and vibrant community, according to Ellison. The company is investing $1.35 billion to create 8,500 jobs on a 70-acre campus on the East Bank of the Cumberland River.
Oracle's current headquarters are in Austin, Texas, but the company had previously designated it as its new headquarters in late 2020. The move to Nashville marks a significant shift for Oracle and positions it at the center of the healthcare industry.
The new campus will be designed by renowned architect Norman Foster and will include office buildings, a community clinic, restaurants, hotels, and a concert venue on the lake. Ellison emphasized that Oracle wants to be part of the Nashville community and intends to hire local talent for its new jobs.
Oracle's acquisition of Cerner has underpinned much of Ellison's reasoning for choosing Nashville as the new headquarters. The company is looking to expand its position in the healthcare industry, which is a major player in Nashville's economy.
The move to Nashville will make Oracle one of the largest public companies in Greater Nashville, according to Business Journal research. HCA Healthcare Inc., started by former Senate majority leader Bill Frist, currently holds that position with $50 billion of annual revenue.
