A large wildfire named Post Fire broke out on Saturday, June 15, 2024, near the Grapevine area in Los Angeles County. The fire started around 1:48 p.m. and quickly spread to over 4,400 acres by late evening.
Evacuation orders were issued for communities near Pyramid Lake, Gorman Post Road, the Hungry Valley SVRA recreation area and surrounding areas due to the threat of the wildfire. Over 1,200 people were evacuated from these areas.
The fire started near the side of the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 and later jumped from a hillside behind a McDonald's restaurant onto an auto repair shop, destroying the building and many parked cars.
Firefighters from various departments including Los Angeles County Fire Department, California Highway Patrol, Ventura County Fire Department, U.S. Forest Service were working to contain the fire.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Strong winds in the area were making it difficult for firefighters to contain the blaze and officials warned that high winds could cause the fire to spread rapidly.
Evacuation orders remain in effect for affected areas and residents are advised to stay away from the area until further notice.
