Prince Harry's Brother, Prince William, Takes Over His Former Unit as Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps
On May 7, 2024, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles III appointed Prince William as the new Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps. This appointment puts Prince William in charge of Prince Harry's former unit.
Prince Harry trained as an Army Air Corps pilot from 2009 to 2015. In August 2013, he passed his Army Air Corps Grading and Pilot Selection Board interview and then went on to train on the Apache Attack Helicopter. His father, Prince Charles, was colonel-in-chief of the Army Air Corps at that time.
Before Harry stepped away from his role as a senior royal in March 2020, he held several military titles: Captain General of the Royal Marines, Honorary Air Commandant of Royal Air Force Honington, and Commodore-in-Chief, Small Ships and Diving, Royal Naval Command. After Harry's departure from these roles, the titles reverted to the crown.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry arrived in London on May 9 for a thanksgiving service at St Paul's Cathedral to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his Invictus Games. He was met with news that his father would not be attending due to a busy schedule.
Prince William's new appointment as Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps is significant because it puts him in charge of Harry's former unit. This development may add another layer to the ongoing tension between the brothers.
