In a recent development, the man who accused Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice of assaulting him has declined to pursue charges, according to police. The alleged assault happened inside the Lit Kitchen and Lounge on May 6 around 2:30 a.m., and the accuser received treatment at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. However, security video from the night did not show any obvious signs of injury or assault on the accuser. Nightclub owner Reza Dibaje expressed his disappointment at the lack of evidence of the alleged assault, as he had exchanged pleasantries with Rice earlier in the evening and had observed him inside the club's VIP area for less than half an hour without ordering any alcohol. Despite this incident, Rice is still facing multiple felony charges for his role in a multicar wreck on Central Expressway back in March that left several people injured. The investigation into the alleged assault is now considered closed by the Dallas police.
In addition to the assault allegations, Rice was also under investigation for allegedly punching a photographer inside a Dallas nightclub early on May 7. However, the man who Rice allegedly punched in the face has now dropped all charges against him. The Kansas City Chiefs receiver is currently participating in the team's organized team activities this week. He is already slated to face a multigame suspension from the NFL for his involvement in a multicar crash and faces eight charges, including aggravated assault, in the case. Rice turned himself into the police last month before being released on bond. The Chiefs, likely expecting that Rice wouldn't be available to start the season, selected former Texas wideout Xavier Worthy with the 28th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Worthy has turned heads during his initial practices with Kansas City.
Overall, while Rice has faced several allegations and charges recently, including aggravated assault and multiple counts of collision involving injury, he has not been convicted of any crime as the charges have been dropped or are still under investigation. The Chiefs will likely monitor the situation closely as the legal proceedings continue.
