Ryan Gosling, the award-winning actor known for his roles in films like 'La La Land' and 'The Fall Guy,' has revealed that there is one moment from his past work that continues to haunt him. In an interview with WSJ Magazine, Gosling spoke about a dance scene in 'La La Land' where he and co-star Emma Stone were supposed to have their hands up. However, Gosling decided to place his hand flat instead of pointing it up as directed. Despite being told that this was not the cooler option, Gosling insisted on keeping his hand in that position for the scene. The result was a now-infamous image of 'Hamburger Hands Gosling' that became the poster for the movie and has haunted him ever since.
Gosling explained, 'There's a moment that haunts me where we're dancing, Emma and I. I didn't know this would become the poster for the movie.' He continued, 'We were supposed to have our hands up, and I thought it'd be cool to put my hand like that. Even though everyone told me it wasn't cool, I was sure that [a flat hand] was cooler than [pointing up].'
Now, whenever Gosling sees the image of his 'Hamburger Hands,' he regrets his decision and wishes he could do it over. He noted, 'Now when I look at it and I have to see it all the time, you know what would have been cooler than this? That.'
Despite having a background in dance that spanned ballet training as a child and occasional adult dance classes, Gosling admitted that his experience did not help him with the hand placement issue during 'La La Land.' He concluded, 'Then, of course, Hamburger Hands Gosling over here... It didn't help me at all in the end.'
Gosling's latest film, 'The Fall Guy,' co-stars Emily Blunt and hits theaters on May 3. In this action comedy, Gosling plays a stuntman who is working on his ex-girlfriend's directorial debut when the lead actor goes missing under mysterious circumstances.
