In recent developments, Samsung is reportedly planning to equip its upcoming Galaxy Tab S10 series tablets with MediaTek's Dimensity 9300B application processor. This marks a significant shift for the tech giant as it has primarily used Qualcomm or its own Exynos processors in its flagship devices thus far. The decision is believed to be driven by rising chipset prices from TSMC, which manufactures both Qualcomm's Snapdragon and Samsung's Exynos chips.
According to various reports, the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra may be the first Samsung flagship device to feature a MediaTek processor. This move is expected to help Samsung reduce costs and diversify its supply chain. However, it could potentially impact Exynos' competitive edge in future flagship product pricing negotiations.
The Dimensity 9300B is manufactured on TSMC's 4nm process and supports the latest technologies such as LPDDR5T RAM and AI capabilities with scalability up to 33B parameters. It also offers cost-effectiveness solutions, making it an attractive option for Samsung.
TSMC Chairman C.C. Wei recently stated that there is room for price increases due to the company's cost-effectiveness solutions, which could contribute to the rising costs of Qualcomm's Snapdragon chips as well.
Samsung Electronics is also reportedly developing its upcoming AP, the Exynos 2500, set for release next year. However, it may face similar challenges due to TSMC's rumored price increase for its 3nm process and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.
The Galaxy Tab S10 series tablets are expected to be released early next year. The exact specifications, including RAM and storage variants, have not been confirmed yet. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
