Samsung, a major tech company based in South Korea, recently unveiled two new wearable devices: the Galaxy Watch Ultra and the Galaxy Ring. The announcement was made during Samsung Unpacked event on July 12, 2024.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra is Samsung's latest smartwatch offering, featuring a round screen in a large 47mm case. It is aimed at sports and health enthusiasts with advanced features such as Multi-sports tile and Functional Threshold Power measure for cycling. The watch also boasts a Titanium Grade 4 frame and is water-resistant with a Quick Button.
Samsung's Galaxy Ring, on the other hand, is designed to focus on health monitoring and personalized insights while worn comfortably on a finger, even during sleep. It uses AI to analyze sleep metrics and provides Energy Score with recommendations for improved wellness.
Both devices are priced differently: the Galaxy Watch Ultra has a starting price of $650, making it Samsung's most expensive watch yet. The Galaxy Ring is priced at $399.99 in the US.
The new wearables expand Samsung's vision for enhancing digital health through accurate and detailed health information, which is essential for Galaxy AI to provide personalized insights and tailored health experiences.
However, some critics have pointed out that the design of Samsung's new devices resembles Apple's offerings. Quinn Nelson of Snazzy Labs called out the Watch Ultra as a shameless copy of Apple Watch Ultra, while the Galaxy Buds 3 were compared to AirPods by The Verge and Business Insider.
Despite these criticisms, Samsung's new wearables are expected to attract a significant number of consumers due to their advanced features and competitive pricing.
