A tragic incident occurred in Las Cruces, New Mexico on April 30, 2024, when a vehicle crashed into a Savers thrift store located at 2340 N. Main Street. The accident resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries.
According to various sources including KVIA, KRQE, and KFOX14/CBS4 reports, the driver of an SUV mistakenly hit the accelerator instead of the brake while trying to park. As a result, the vehicle crashed through the front glass wall and aluminum facade near the self-checkout area.
The unfortunate incident claimed one life - that of 67-year-old Pamela Kaye Nelson. She was among ten individuals who were rushed to hospitals for treatment. The ages of those injured range from approximately 30 to 90 years old, and two of the victims were employees at the Savers store.
The driver, a 69-year-old woman, was not injured in the crash. She later went to a local hospital on her own accord for evaluation.
The Las Cruces Police Department is currently investigating this unfortunate incident. Access to the parking lot immediately in front of the Savers store has been temporarily blocked while the investigation is ongoing, and the store remains closed.
