Seven members of a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints youth group from Salina were hiking in Sevier County, Utah when they were struck by lightning on Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred around 1:45 p.m., as the group was moving through water puddling on the ground near the Fremont Junction and Willow Springs Overlook.

Approximately 50 youths felt the shock of the lightning, with seven experiencing medical concerns due to electrocution. The seven were transported to hospitals in Salina for treatment. Two of these individuals had serious symptoms and were flown by medical helicopter to Primary Children's Hospital in Lehi for further care.

The rest of the group was accounted for and returned to their parents, none of whom reported any medical issues. None of the injuries are expected to be life-threatening.

This incident serves as a reminder that lightning strikes can occur unexpectedly and pose a significant risk, especially during rainstorms while hiking in mountainous areas.
