WAUSAU, Wis. - Severe storms moved through central Wisconsin on Tuesday night, causing multiple power outages and reports of tornado activity.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a confirmed tornado was reported near Abbotsford, 19 miles west of Wausau, moving northeast at 80 mph. The NWS also issued tornado warnings for Antigo and Langlade County earlier in the evening.
The storms caused extensive damage across multiple counties including Marathon, Lincoln, Langlade, and Wood. Reports indicate trees are down in various areas including Neillsville, Sparta, Augusta, and on HWY 35 from Alma to the Trempealeau County line. HWY 35 is closed at the Buffalo-Trempealeau County line due to downed trees.
Power outages were reported in various areas including Western Wisconsin where over 4,000 Xcel Energy customers were affected. Eau Claire Energy Cooperative also reported multiple power outages and crews are being dispatched to restore power.
Approximately 31,673 customers are without power in Wisconsin on Tuesday night. Nearly 3,300 customers in the Oshkosh area were affected by the power outage.
The NWS advises anyone in areas affected by severe weather to find shelter immediately and stay away from downed power lines and trees.
