Six Finalists Compete to Host the Sundance Film Festival from 2027: Atlanta, Boulder, Cincinnati, Louisville, Park City/Salt Lake City, and Santa Fe

PARK CITY, UTAH and NEW YORK, NY - The Sundance Institute, a non-profit organization known for its influential film festival, has announced six finalists in the search for a new location to host the event beginning in 2027. The finalist cities are Atlanta, Georgia; Boulder, Colorado; Cincinnati, Ohio; Louisville, Kentucky; Park City/Salt Lake City, Utah; and Santa Fe, New Mexico. Each city was carefully evaluated based on its infrastructure capabilities to host the festival and its commitment to supporting the arts community.

According to a press release from Sundance Institute, the organization assessed each city's infrastructure, ethos and equity values in order to determine which location would best serve and support the independent artists and audiences that attend the annual event. Each finalist was required to submit a Request for Proposal (RFP) detailing their plans for hosting the festival.

The Sundance Film Festival, founded by Robert Redford in 1981, has been held in Park City, Utah since 1985. However, due to logistical concerns and infrastructure limitations, the organization is considering a move to a new location. The timing of the festival will remain the same regardless of its location.

The finalist cities each have unique qualities that make them strong contenders for hosting the Sundance Film Festival. Atlanta, Georgia boasts a thriving creative ecosystem and has previously hosted major film festivals such as the Atlanta Film Festival and the Savannah Film Festival. Boulder, Colorado is known for its vibrant arts scene and commitment to sustainability, making it an attractive option for Sundance.

Cincinnati, Ohio has also made the shortlist with its strong support of local filmmakers and a growing film industry. Louisville, Kentucky's thriving arts community and commitment to cultural diversity make it a compelling choice. Santa Fe, New Mexico is known for its rich artistic heritage and beautiful natural surroundings.

Park City/Salt Lake City, Utah remains in the running as well, despite logistical challenges such as traffic congestion and high rental prices during the festival. The city has been the home of Sundance for over 40 years and has a strong commitment to supporting independent filmmakers.

The selection committee will visit each finalist city to further explore their proposals and determine which location will be the best fit for the Sundance Film Festival moving forward.
