Fellow defender Robin le Normand also received a yellow card and will be suspended for the same match.
Toni Kroos announced his retirement from international soccer after the game, bringing an end to his illustrious career with Germany.

The quarterfinals continue on July 6 with England taking on Italy, followed by Belgium against the Netherlands. The semifinals will take place on July 9 and the final is scheduled for July 12.
