Steve Buscemi, the beloved actor known for his roles in 'Boardwalk Empire' and 'Fargo,' was assaulted in Manhattan on May 8, 2024. According to multiple sources, including The New York Post and The New York Times, Buscemi was walking near the corner of Third Avenue and East 27th Street in the Kips Bay neighborhood when he was punched in the face by an unidentified assailant.
The attack left Buscemi with bruising, swelling, and bleeding to his left eye. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment.
Despite the assault, Buscemi's publicist confirmed that he is 'ok' and appreciates everyone's well wishes.
The investigation into the attack is ongoing, with no arrests made as of yet. The assailant is described as a male with a dark complexion, wearing a dark colored baseball style cap, blue t-shirt, black pants, white sneakers, and carrying a bookbag.
This incident marks another in a string of random attacks on pedestrians in New York City. In March 2024, fellow 'Boardwalk Empire' cast member Michael Stuhlbarg was also assaulted while walking through Central Park. Xavier Israel, 27, was later arrested and charged with assault for that incident.
Buscemi's attack is a reminder of the importance of staying vigilant in public places and being aware of one's surroundings. The NYPD urges anyone with information regarding this or any other crime to contact them at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
