In the early hours of April 28, 2024, a shooting incident took place at Cabana Live in Sanford, Florida. The incident left ten people injured and resulted in the arrest of a sixteen-year-old suspect. Among those injured was Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell.
According to reports from various sources, the shooting occurred just after midnight when a physical altercation inside Cabana Live escalated into gun violence. Deputies from the Seminole County Sheriff's Office were on patrol in the area and responded to the scene shortly after hearing gunshots. The suspect was quickly taken into custody by deputies and security guards.
Tank Dell, a native of Daytona Beach, Florida, was among those injured in the shooting. He finished his college career at the University of Houston with 1,398 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns before being drafted by the Houston Texans in the third round of last year's NFL draft. The Texans released a statement confirming that Dell was injured but did not provide further details about his condition.
The shooting came just a day after four people were shot in Daytona Beach, approximately 40 miles east of Sanford. One man was arrested and charged with four counts of attempted murder in connection to that incident.
Cabana Live released a statement expressing their condolences for those involved and cooperating with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office in their investigation.
The shooting is not the first violent incident to occur at Cabana Live. In 2023, a mass shooting at the venue left three people dead and ten injured. The venue has a history of hosting private events and attracting large crowds.
