The third Republican presidential debate for the 2024 election is set to take place at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County. The debate will feature five candidates: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, Senator Tim Scott, and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. The debate is scheduled for Wednesday night at 8 p.m. ET and will be aired on NBC News and livestreamed by Rumble, a video sharing platform with a primarily right-wing audience. The debate will be moderated by Lester Holt and Kristen Welker of NBC News and conservative talk show host Hugh Hewitt.
Each candidate brings a unique perspective to the debate. DeSantis, despite being a top rival of former President Trump, is nearly 40 percentage points behind in opinion polls. Ramaswamy, a former biotechnology investor, has gained attention as a potential alternative to Trump. Haley, a former South Carolina governor, has emphasized her youth and immigrant background. Scott, the only Black Republican U.S. senator, has low name recognition but is known for his optimism and focus on unifying the party. Christie, a former New Jersey governor, has become a vocal critic of Trump.
Notably absent from the debate are former Vice President Mike Pence, who recently suspended his campaign, and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum. To qualify for the debate, candidates must obtain a minimum of 70,000 unique donors and receive at least 4% of the vote in multiple polls.
Former Vice President Mike Pence and North Dakota’s governor, Doug Burgum, will not participate due to Pence dropping out of the race and Burgum not meeting the RNC’s criteria.
