Thompson Fire Evacuation Orders in Northern California
Mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for thousands of residents in Butte County, California due to the Thompson Fire. The fire, which started on July 3, 2024, has burned over 3,000 acres and is currently zero percent contained.

- BUT-ONE-730 to BUT-OSE-828 -BUT HUR 851, BUT ORO 953 to BUT ORO 960 Evacuation warnings have been issued for the following zones: -BUT CHE 531 -BUT ONE 726, BUT ONE 727 -BUT ORO 964 -BUT OSE 802, BUT OSE 804, BUT OSE 805, BUT OSE 811, BUT OSE 816, BUT OSE 820 Evacuation Shelters
Residents have been advised to go to the following evacuation shelters: -Oroville Church of the Nazarene at 2238 Monte Vista Ave., Oroville, CA -Gridley/Butte Co Fairgrounds at 199 E Hazel St, Gridley, CA Injuries and Firefighters
four firefighters have been injured while battling the blaze. Impacted Population and Surrounding Areas
the population of approximately 28,000 people in Oroville has been affected by the evacuation orders. The Thompson Fire is located near Paradise, where the devastating Camp Fire occurred in 2018. Other nearby areas include Oregon City. Government Response and Assistance
governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency for Butte County on July 3, 2024. The California National Guard has been mobilized to assist with the evacuation efforts. Heat Wave and Red Flag Warnings
the Thompson Fire comes as an “exceptionally dangerous and lethal” heat wave builds in the West, with temperatures soaring throughout the day and night, dry conditions, and strong winds. Red flag warnings have been issued for numerous counties in California.
