Thousands of protesters gathered outside the White House on Saturday, demanding an immediate cease-fire in Israel's ongoing war in Gaza. The demonstrators, mostly dressed in red and waving Palestinian flags, called for President Biden to halt military aid to Israel and hold Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accountable for the conflict that has resulted in over 36,000 Palestinian deaths.
Protesters from various cities across the country traveled to Washington D.C. for the rally, including Ibrahim Dabdoub from Nashville, Tennessee; Dania and Qais Musmar who regretted their vote for Biden in 2020; and Ehab Abutavikh from near Paterson, New Jersey who participated in his first protest with his cousin and aunt.
The protesters created a two-mile long red banner around the White House perimeter to symbolize a 'red line' that they believe President Biden should not cross. They chanted slogans such as 'Biden, Biden you can't hide, we are your red line,' and 'It's time for an arms embargo, and it's time to end this.'
Despite the peaceful nature of the protest, some agitators targeted National Park Service rangers with objects and insults. Protesters also defaced statues in Washington D.C. during the demonstration.
Meanwhile, thousands of pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel demonstrators marched through central London to the British parliament, calling for a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza war.
It is important to note that while these protests were taking place, there were also reports of masked demonstrators chanting slogans urging Hamas' military wing to 'kill another soldier now' and calling on Hezbollah to 'kill another Zionist now.' These actions are not conducive to a peaceful resolution of the conflict and should be condemned.
