In a tragic and shocking turn of events, three women - BBC racing commentator John Hunt's wife Carol Hunt, 61, and his daughters Hannah Hunt, 28, and Louise Hunt, 25 - were killed in a suspected crossbow attack at their home in Bushey on July 11th. The suspect in the case is Kyle Clifford who was found injured and receiving medical treatment in Enfield area of north London on July 12th. No arrests have been made as of yet.

The incident has drawn attention to the alarming issue of violence against women, with one woman being killed every three days in the UK and one in four women experiencing domestic violence during their lifetime according to UN special rapporteur Reem Alsalem. British Home Secretary Yvette Cooper described the attack as truly shocking.

Carol Hunt was a well-known figure in horse racing circles, with her husband John being a popular commentator for BBC 5 Live's main news and sports radio channel. Hannah worked as a beautician in Radlett and her younger sister Louise ran a successful dog grooming business in Bushey. The family lived together at their home in Bushey.

The suspect, Kyle Clifford, is the older brother of Bradley Clifford who was convicted of murder and attempted grievous bodily harm in 2018. Bradley killed 18-year-old Jahshua Francis and seriously injured Sobhan Khan by running his car into their moped. He threatened violence towards anyone who interfered with his Ford Mustang in a WhatsApp message before the incident.

Since 2018, there have been at least eight deaths from crossbow attacks in the UK. In January 2018, Anthony Lawrence fatally shot Shane Gilmer and injured Laura Sugden with a crossbow. Jaswant Singh Chail attempted to assassinate the late Queen Elizabeth II with a loaded crossbow on Christmas Day 2021. Shelley Armitage, Susan Rushworth, and Suzanne Blamires were killed by Stephen Griffiths, known as the 'Crossbow Cannibal', between 2009 and 2010 using a crossbow.

The investigation into the triple murder is ongoing with Hertfordshire Police urging anyone with information to come forward. The community in Bushey has been left in shock by the tragic events, with tributes pouring in for the victims from across the sporting world and beyond.
