The 2024 Tony Awards nominations were announced on April 30, with several productions and performers receiving recognition. Among the most notable nominees were Alicia Keys' semi-autobiographical musical 'Hell's Kitchen', which earned 13 nominations including for Best Musical, and David Adjmi's play 'Stereophonic'. Both productions received nods for their leading roles, with Brian d’Arcy James nominated for 'Days of Wine and Roses' and Tom Pecinka from 'Stereophonic' expressing his feelings about the nomination. Shaina Taub, book and music writer for 'Suffs', also expressed her gratitude for the recognition.
Other notable nominees included Jim Parsons, Sarah Paulson, Jeremy Strong, Corey Stoll, Eddie Redmayne, Gayle Rankin, Jessica Lange, Amy Ryan, Liev Schreiber, Jonathan Groff, Daniel Radcliffe,\Bebe Neuwirth and Rachel McAdams. Sufjan Stevens' musical 'Illinoise' was also nominated for Best Musical at the awards.
However, there were some notable snubs in the nominations. Steve Carell was not nominated for a Tony Award for his role in 'Uncle Vanya', despite being in a Broadway debut. The ensemble casts of 'Jaja’s African Hair Braiding' and 'Illinoise' were also not nominated at all.
The 2024 Tony Awards ceremony will take place on June 16, with Ariana DeBose returning as the host and producer.
