Birmingham, Alabama experienced a tragic night on July 13, 2024 with two separate incidents of gun violence leaving seven people dead and twelve others injured.
The first incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. in the Echo Highlands neighborhood where three individuals - an adult male, an adult female, and a young child - were found deceased inside a vehicle on Indian Summer Drive.
Birmingham Police Department (BPD) officers arrived at the scene and discovered that the blue sedan had been riddled with bullets. The victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
The second incident took place around 11 p.m. in North Birmingham when a mass shooting occurred outside a nightclub on 27th Street North.
Four people lost their lives and nine others were injured in the shooting, which took place in the parking lot of the club.
One man was found dead on a sidewalk outside of the club while two women were discovered deceased inside. Another man died later at UAB Hospital from his injuries.
BPD is investigating both incidents and has asked for any information or footage from residents in the area to help with their investigations.
These tragic events mark a significant increase in violence for Birmingham, which has seen a total of 89 homicides so far this year compared to 74 at the same time last year.
