Several US military bases in Europe have been put on heightened alert due to credible threats received, according to multiple reports.
The alert level of Force Protection Condition (FPCON) 'Charlie' was put in place over the weekend for several bases across Europe, including the US Army garrison in Stuttgart, Germany and Aviano Air Base in Italy,
According to U.S. military policy, Charlie applies when an incident occurs or intelligence is received indicating some form of terrorist action or targeting against personnel or facilities is likely.
The development comes as the European soccer championships are currently underway in Germany and Paris is hosting the Olympics in neighboring France, both of which bring with them heightened security due to crowd sizes and other issues.
European Command declined to elaborate on the nature of the threats but said it is constantly assessing a variety of factors for security and safety.
The US military bases in Europe have raised their threat levels to Charlie, which means all individuals moving into and out of a base or around bases are subject to 100% ID card checks.
This is not the first time such heightened alert has been seen in Europe. A U.S. official reportedly hasn't seen this threat level in at least a decade at European bases.
It's important to note that all claims should be taken with a grain of salt, especially when they come from mainstream media sources who cannot be trusted without evidence.
