The U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials are currently underway in Eugene, Oregon from June 21-30, 2024. The event serves as the selection process for Team USA athletes who will represent the United States at the Paris Olympics later this year (July 28 to August 11). NBC and Peacock will broadcast all competitions live with at least nine hours of daytime coverage and three hours of primetime coverage each day. The top three finishers in each event qualify for Team USA.
One of the most anticipated events on the opening day was the men's 10,000 meters final, which took place at Hayward Field. Grant Fisher, Nico Young, and Woody Kincaid were among the athletes who met the Olympic qualifying standard of 27 minutes for this event. Fisher has a personal best of 26:52.04 during the qualifying window while Young clocked in at 26:52.72.
The U.S. Track and Field trials schedule includes various events such as decathlon, hammer throw qualifying, women's 400 meters heats, javelin qualifying, steeplechase first round, pole vault qualifying, women's 100 meters first round, shot put qualifying and women's 5,000 meters first round. Competition days include Friday (June 21), Saturday (June 22), Sunday (June 23), Thursday (June 27), Friday (June 28) and Saturday (June 29).
Some of the notable athletes competing in the trials include Sha'Carri Richardson, who recently won the Prefontaine Classic in both the 100-meter and 200-meter events. Noah Lyles, who earned a bronze medal at the 2020 Olympics, is also present and has hinted at attempting the 'sprint quadruple' by competing in all four individual sprint events (100-meter, 200-meter, and both 4x100 and 4x400 relays). Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, a two-time Olympic champion hurdler, is also in attendance.
