Violet Affleck, the eldest child of Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck, made a rare public appearance at a Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors meeting on July 10, 2024. During her speech, Violet revealed that she had been diagnosed with a post-viral condition in 2019. She urged the board to take action to prevent the spread of such conditions and alleviate their consequences.
Violet highlighted the devastating impact of long COVID, a neurological and cardiovascular illness that can affect anyone but disproportionately impacts marginalized communities, including LA's homeless population, communities of color, disabled people, elderly people, trans people, women and anyone in a public-facing essential job. She called for mask availability, air filtration and far-UVC light in government facilities and demanded mask mandates in county medical facilities to help combat the long-term effects of COVID-19.
Violet also advocated for expanding the availability of high-quality free tests and treatment for long COVID. She emphasized that mask bans do not keep people safer, but rather make vulnerable members of the community less safe and hinder their ability to participate in Los Angeles together.
The 18-year-old daughter of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner graduated from high school earlier this year and has been an advocate for COVID-19 prevention measures since her diagnosis. She previously wore a mask during her graduation ceremony, which was attended by her mother, Jennifer Garner, and father, Ben Affleck.
