Warner Bros. is returning to Middle-earth with new Lord of the Rings films, targeting a 2026 release. The first film, titled 'Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum', will be produced by New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures.

Director Peter Jackson and his longtime writing partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens will be involved in every step of the way. Jackson, Walsh, and Boyens expressed their excitement about the project in a statement: 'As life long fans of Professor Tolkien’s vast mythology, we are proud to be working with Mike De Luca, Pam Abdy and the entire team at Warner Bros. on another epic adventure!'

Andy Serkis is set to star and direct the film as Gollum. The deal covers two films in the franchise.

The original Lord of the Rings trilogy, which won numerous Oscars, will be returning to theaters this summer with remastered and extended versions.

Amazon is also developing its own Lord of the Rings TV universe. Jackson and his co-writers were previously frustrated about being mistakenly associated with the Amazon shows.

The author expresses her personal opinion and frustration towards the announcement of new Lord of the Rings movies focused on Gollum. She uses emotional manipulation by stating her favorite film property is being 'milked' and 'haunted' with new installments. She also engages in sensationalism by using exaggerated language such as 'diminishing quality until the day I die', and 'scraping the bottom of the barrel'. The author selectively reports information by only focusing on her negative feelings towards these new movies, while ignoring potential positive aspects or reasons for their creation.

The author uses inflammatory rhetoric and appeals to emotion in her article, expressing frustration and exhaustion towards the announcement of new Lord of the Rings movies. She also makes a dichotomous depiction by contrasting her love for the original trilogy with her disdain for potential future installments.
    • The world is changed. I feel it in the water. I feel it in the Earth. I smell it in the air... Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, my favorite film property, is slowly morphing into yet another cursed cinematic universe that will haunt me with new installments of diminishing quality until the day I die.
    • Who in Galadriel’s name actually wants a whole new set of movies built around Gollum?!
    • In the words of Smeagol himself, ‘AAAAGH! … You ruins it!’
    • As someone who used to love Star Wars and can now barely muster the energy to watch the newest entries in a seemingly endless stream of Lucasfilm series, and who still watches the original Lord of the Rings trilogy every Thanksgiving, the news of these new Gollum movies (Gollum movies!?) has me feeling more exhausted than ever.
    • Must we Marvel-ize the Shire? And what’s next–a limited series about the ents? A prequel series detailing the creation of the Uruk-hai?
  • Bias (90%)
The author expresses her displeasure and frustration towards the production of new Lord of the Rings movies, specifically those focused on Gollum. She uses language that depicts those involved in producing these movies as milking the franchise until it's dry and scraping the bottom of the barrel. This can be considered an example of ideological bias as she holds a negative opinion towards these new productions.

The author makes several statements that are factual and do not contain any fallacies. However, there is one instance of an appeal to authority when the author mentions that Jackson made history by directing three major feature films simultaneously and that the films were nominated for multiple awards including Oscars, Golden Globes and BAFTAs. This is an appeal to authority as the author is relying on the reputation of Jackson's work rather than providing evidence or reasoning for why this fact is significant.
