Steven 'Dreamking23'

Steven Chavez is the Director of Editorial and part owner of EventHubs. With a passion for video games since about 1994, his affinity for the fighting game genre elevated to a more serious level in 2009 with the release of Street Fighter 4. He is an avid Street Fighter 6 player (Lily main), but also dabbles in Mortal Kombat 1, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Killer Instinct, and every other major fighting game that gets released. As an EventHubs user and staffer for over 10 years now, Steven manages and leads the editorial team, finding new approaches to keep content fresh and interesting. He continues to write stories and reviews for the front page, and has conducted interviews with some of the industry's biggest companies including Capcom, NetherRealm Studios, and SNK. Steven also handles website optimizations and technology strategies for EventHubs, has experience with Django, HTML and CSS, and manages the index sections for major fighting games across the website. This entails creating evergreen content aimed at helping beginners enter the fighting game space, intermediate players sharpen their skills, and advanced players better understand the meta game for the community's largest titles. Chavez is a recurring guest on EventHubs Talk and Block, mainly being brought on to discuss in-depth topics surrounding Street Fighter 6. However, he also analyzes other fighting games on the show, as well as some of the latest headlines. He contributes ideas and consults for EventHubs' Broadcast department as well, offering advice on topics, visuals, and general concepts. Steven got his starts in the fighting game community (FGC) as a character guide writer and combo video creator. In his early FGC days, he would write and manage Super Street Fighter 4 guides on the EventHubs forums, securing the spot as the Dudley overseer and helping players learn how to improve their game with tips for any skill level. He managed a YouTube channel for several years with nearly 5,000 subscribers at the time, crafting videos that featured the most impressive and difficult-to-perform combos he could come up with. Some of the games he's created combo videos for include the Street Fighter 4 series, King of Fighters 13, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Injustice: Gods Among Us, Mortal Kombat 9, Mortal Kombat X, Street Fighter X Tekken, Darkstalkers, and more. Several of his Injustice videos generated over 100,000 views apiece, and in 2011 Steven was contracted by multiplatform online entertainment network Machinima to create combo videos and tutorials for their fighting game channels. Steven's combo video work has been well established and recognized within the fighting game community over the years. In February 2014, he was even featured on the Xbox One Killer Instinct home screen for one of his Spinal combo videos, which stayed in the latest news section for over a week. He is known as EventHubs' 'resident lab monster' due to his vast knowledge and ability in finding and understanding the intricacies of fighting games. He specializes in Capcom fighting games, but is capable of analyzing and breaking down many other fighters as well including the aforementioned modern titles, as well as Tekken, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Super Smash Bros., and more. Steven's main area of expertise lies in Street Fighter, though series such as Super Smash Bros., Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, Marvel vs. Capcom, and several others are a part of his repertoire as well. He also delves into retro and obscure fighting games to shed new light on titles from the past. The earliest memories Steven has with fighting games go all the way back to Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo on the Super Nintendo where he would spam E. Honda's Hundred Hand Slap special move against his older brothers to try and score wins. The most significant turning point for him, however, came about during the Nintendo 64 era where he discovered the extended and stylish combos of Killer Instinct Gold and Clayfighter 63 1/3, which set him on his path to becoming a combo video creator and helped him learn how to break down attacks and maneuvers on a very intricate level. Nowadays, Steven focuses on competitive play and analyzing the latest fighting games. Throughout his career, Steven has competed in several major tournaments including the Capcom Cup 2019 Last Chance Qualifier. His biggest win came in 2009 in the first round of the GameStop Nationwide Street Fighter 4 tournament, where he took home first, earning a certificate and going on to compete in round 2 - at which he came in 3rd. Most recently, however, Steven competed in the Capcom Pro Tour 2023 US/Canada West online tournament, which acted as a Premier event that saw the winner secure a spot at Capcom Cup X. This tournament had a whopping 628 registered players compete in it making it one of the largest Street Fighter 6 events to have taken place at the time, and Steven ended up going 3-2 with his Lily. The majority of Steven's competitive fighting game experience takes place in the online ranked space. In August, Steven reached over 50,000 League Points with Lily in Street Fighter 6's ranked mode, accomplishing his initial points goal. He is an established Master ranked Lily player, and has earned Master rank with several other characters including Marisa and JP. Steven has also spent time playing as and studying other characters in Street Fighter 6 as well, and has written an in-depth review for the game's first DLC character, Rashid. Steven is an established Master ranked Lily player, and has earned Master rank with several other characters including Marisa and JP. Steven has devoted the majority of his life to video games, with the last almost two decades now living, breathing, eating, and sleeping fighting games.
