She graduated with a degree in Meteorology and a minor in Journalism from Northern Illinois University. Throughout her career, she has experienced various extreme weather events across the United States while chasing tornadoes from time to time. Currently living in Denver, Colorado, Heather enjoys covering weather across the country. She is passionate about football, trying new restaurants and hiking with her husband and two dogs named Dirk and Halen.

The North Pole Christmas tree farm in Juno Beach was among the areas that experienced significant damage. Broward County Public Schools and Broward College in Fort Lauderdale were closed due to safety concerns. The National Weather Service issued a High Wind Warning for coastal Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties. Over 7 million people were under flood watches and warnings, with rainfall rates reaching 1 to 2 inches per hour in some areas.
