Kristy Tamashiro is proud to be a journalist in the community that raised her. The Oahu-native grew up playing volleyball and basketball. During her time as a student-athlete at Moanalua High School, she earned OIA honors for basketball and was a part of the award-winning media club MeneMac. After graduating in 2011, she pursued an Athletic Training degree at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She spent one year in the Athletic Training program then had a change of heart and decided to go back to her first love which was media. She moved back home to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Kristy represented the UH Manoa journalism program as an anchor for their television broadcast called UHM TV. During her time at UH Manoa, Kristy began to build a resume in the local media community. She interned at iHeartMedia Honolulu and quickly joined the official staff as a Board Operator for News Radio 830 KHVH and 92.3 KSSK while becoming an on-air personality for Island 98.5. She also worked as a Sports Information Student Assistant for Hawaii Athletics where she got to create highlight tapes, one-on-one interviews with star players and fun and informational features for the UH athletic program. Her time with Hawaii Athletics even took her to travel with the Rainbow Wahine Basketball team when they made a historic run to March Madness in 2016 as the team videographer. Kristy has also spent some time on the sidelines as a sideline reporter for OC16 where she covered Hawaii high school boys soccer and football. Through her love of sports, Kristy was able to connect with the Sports Department at KHON2. That's where Sports Director, Rob DeMello, took her under his wings as a sports intern and the rest was history. Before making an appearance on-air, Kristy was a Wake Up 2day producer as well as the Take2 producer. Kristy is excited to be KHON2's first ever Digital Reporter and bring the viewers the stories of our beloved community. Latest from Kristy Tamashiro
