The Daily's Verdict

This author has a mixed reputation for journalistic standards. It is advisable to fact-check, scrutinize for bias, and check for conflicts of interest before relying on the author's reporting.

Bias

86%

Examples:

  • The author uses language that demonizes senators for their actions and portrays them as being against the will of the people.
  • The use of phrases such as ‘voted-approved Measure 113 mandates’ implies that it was an unpopular decision made by voters when in fact it passed with a majority vote.

Conflicts of Interest

52%

Examples:

  • The author mentions that Nike’s CEO John Donahoe blamed himself for the company’s recent underperformance and put some of the blame on himself and Nike’s leadership team.

Contradictions

86%

Examples:

  • The article states that Alaska Airlines grounded its entire fleet of Boeing 737-9 aircraft after a midair depressurization incident. However, the airline only grounded the specific plane involved in the incident and continued to operate other 737-9 flights.
  • The article states that voters would have understood the disqualification to apply to the term of office immediately following the term in which a legislator accrued 10 or more unexcused absences. However, this is not entirely accurate as it does not specify if they can run for re-election at a later time.
  • The damage that led to the emergency landing appeared to be in a plug-like location on the fuselage shaped similar to a door but not designed for opening even when aircraft is on ground.

Deceptions

52%

Examples:

  • 'interest in sport, health and wellness have never been stronger', which can be interpreted as a statement of fact when it is actually an opinion.
  • Nike claims that layoffs will not impact retail store employees but does not specify how many stores are affected by these cuts.
  • The number 83,000 workers worldwide in 2023 is false as it was not specified what year this number refers to.
