Pete Grigsby

Pete Grigsby brings more than 30 years of forecasting experience to the KMBC 9 First Alert Weather team and has been forecasting Kansas City weather since 1999. Previously, he had served as a meteorologist in Virginia, Indiana and Kentucky. After nearly 10 years at KMBC, to accommodate for better family hours, Pete adjusted his career path by accepting a job with the Blue Springs School District. He is an administrator overseeing and programming the district’s educational TV station (BSSD TV) and a high school music radio station (BSSD Radio). He teaches high school TV and radio broadcast classes in addition to his Meteorology class at Blue Springs South High School. He continues to work at KMBC 9 as a weekend evening meteorologist, and during severe weather threats. Pete has a BA in Broadcast Journalism from Brigham Young University and a Meteorology Degree from Western Kentucky University. He has the “Seal of Approval” from the American Meteorological Society and in 2020 was awarded an Emmy for Team Coverage of the May tornado outbreak. Born and raised in Kentucky, Pete was an all-state high school basketball player, scoring more than 2,000 points with offers to play college basketball at Auburn (with coach Sonny Smith and Charles Barkley), BYU, Ohio U. and other colleges. Pete decided to walk away from the sport and concentrate on studies in broadcast journalism and meteorology. Pete is married to Michelle and has two children, Nyle and Pete IV. In addition to spending time with his family, he loves running, watching sports, and serving in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
