Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher, known as Joe the Plumber, became famous during the 2008 presidential campaign when he questioned then-Sen. Barack Obama on his economic policies. He later ran for the US House of Representatives in Ohio's 9th District in 2012 but lost to Democrat Marcy Kaptur. Wurzelbacher passed away at the age of 49 after battling pancreatic cancer.
