Laken Riley was a nursing student at the University of Georgia who was murdered in Athens on Feb. 12, 2017. Riley was found dead near her car on North Milledge Avenue early Sunday morning after she failed to show up for work as a nurse at St. Mary's Hospital. According to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, Riley had been stabbed multiple times and robbed of her purse and cellphone. Police are still searching for the suspect or suspects who killed Riley, who was described by her family as a kind, compassionate and caring person. Her mother, Tina Moore-Riley, said in a statement that Laken had a passion for helping others and wanted to make a difference in the world.
