Sierra Rains

Digital Reporter Sierra Rains joined the WKRN News 2 team in October 2022 as a Digital Reporter. She is proud to call Nashville, Tennessee home after living in four different states! Sierra grew up in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, but also briefly called Texas, Indiana and Florida home. Sierra found her passion for storytelling while studying journalism at the University of Oklahoma. During that time, Sierra interned at The Oklahoman where she covered everything from elections to art exhibits as a features writer. She also delved into topics such as homelessness and mental health while reporting for the OU Daily. And in 2018, Sierra visited the Oklahoma State Capitol to document teacher strikes occurring throughout the nation. She found her niche in crime reporting not long after. Sierra graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism in 2019 and readily joined The Ardmoreite team as a crime reporter. While in Ardmore, Oklahoma, she uncovered malpractice in the municipal court system and broke national news on two officers now convicted of murder. Sierra also was a part of a team that won The Ardmoreite its first Sequoyah Award since 1989. She continued her career as a crime reporter after moving to Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Her most memorable stories while working for the Northwest Florida Daily News focused on how crime was affecting the community and the experiences of local families who had lost loved ones. When she’s not on the clock Sierra enjoys hiking, swimming, traveling, spending time with friends and family and cuddling with her two cats, Percy and William.
