Broke On: Sunday, 17 March 2024 On March 17, 2024, a New Mexico State Police officer was fatally shot by Jaremy Smith while attempting to help him with a flat tire on Interstate 40 near mile marker 318. The shooting occurred at around 5:30 am and resulted in the death of Officer Justin Hare. Smith then fled the scene, driving away in his own vehicle.
