The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is an American non-profit organization which regulates college sports. The NCAA organizes major competitive events for college athletes in Divisions I, II and III. It also provides rules and guidelines for student-athletes<dummy00027> education, eligibility, transferring schools and more. The NCAA has faced several controversies over the years related to compensation of student-athletes, gender equality in sports and academic fraud. In recent years, legal shifts in the environment surrounding college sports have challenged the NCAA's ability to serve as an effective national regulator for college athletics. The organization is currently undergoing a transformation to better serve its student-athletes and adapt to modern times. In June 2023, Charlie Baker, the Governor of Massachusetts, assumed the role of NCAA President. Baker brings decades of experience spearheading transformations at high profile institutions in the private and public sectors. He is credited with bringing bipartisan leadership to the state and successfully guiding Massachusetts through an exceptionally turbulent period for government officials. As NCAA president, Baker will focus on building a sustainable model for the future of college athletics. He will partner with federal policymakers to develop a consistent, sustainable legal framework to address issues common to student-athletes and athletic departments across the country. Throughout his career, Governor Baker has demonstrated the ability to balance competing priorities, inspire a shared vision and create a broad sense of trust.
