The Daily's Verdict

This author has a mixed reputation for journalistic standards. It is advisable to fact-check, scrutinize for bias, and check for conflicts of interest before relying on the author's reporting.

Bias

85%

Examples:

  • Gov. Mark Gordon on Friday rejected new abortion regulations that would have made it more difficult to operate clinics
  • Opponents, including doctors and health care experts, stated it would not protect women — citing the already low mortality and morbidity rates with the procedure — but could force them to seek out less safe methods of self-induced abortion.

Conflicts of Interest

50%

Examples:

  • Chip Neiman (R-Hullett)

Contradictions

85%

Examples:

  • The ultrasound provision was originally part of HB0137
  • While that bill died, its sponsor — House Majority Floor Leader Chip Neiman (R-Hullett) — requested some of its provisions piggyback into HB 148 via an amendment, which passed on the House floor.

Deceptions

50%

Examples:

  • Gordon’s statement that more lawsuits over this legislation would simply tie up courts and stall resolution further implies that there are no other legal avenues available to challenge these regulations when in fact there are ongoing court cases challenging Wyoming’s abortion bans.
  • The title of the article suggests that Gordon vetoed Wyoming abortion regulations and an ultrasound requirement. However, this is not entirely accurate as he only vetoed House Bill 148 which regulated procedural abortion clinics without mentioning medication abortions, ultrasounds or waiting periods.

Wyoming Bans Minors from Gender Transition Medical Treatments, Sparking Controversy and Opposition

Broke On: Friday, 22 March 2024 Wyoming recently passed a bill that bans minors from receiving medical treatments for gender transition. The legislation, known as Senate File 99, includes provisions that doctors and other health care providers who provide gender-affirming care could have their licenses suspended or revoked. Proponents argue it is a violation of parental rights to make decisions about their child's healthcare without consent. Gov Mark Gordon signed the bill but expressed opposition from the ACLU which argues this ban will deny struggling transgender youth critical support and make their lives more difficult.
