Urbanist Staff are a team of writers and experts who cover urban affairs in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Led by Rian Watt as Senior Advisor, the team focuses on topics such as transportation, land use, housing affordability, and social justice. Rian Watt has served in various roles within The Urbanist organization including Executive Director and Chair of the Election Committee. In addition to The Urbanist, Rian serves as the Executive Director of the Economic Opportunity Institute and on the boards of Futurewise and the King County Regional Homelessness Authority. Previously, Rian has worked as a management consultant, social policy researcher, strategy lead for national firms, and a professional baseball writer. He is proud to be the son of immigrants from West Bengal and Scotland.
