Ashley Hamilton is a news reporter who joined the WGNO newsroom in August of 2023. A New Orleans native, she attended West Jefferson High School and later graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism. Prior to joining WGNO, Ashley worked as a multimedia journalist at KADN in Lafayette. As a passionate local resident, she is dedicated to reporting on the community she grew up in and bringing important stories to light. The incident began when he mistook two innocent men for law enforcement and shot them outside his residence. When police arrived to execute a search warrant, Lathers opened fire on the SWAT team. One officer returned fire in self-defense, and later that day, deputies engaged in a shootout with Lathers, resulting in his death. The two initial victims survived with non-life-threatening injuries. All three officers are reportedly stable.
