Stewart Bell

Stewart Bell is a Canadian journalist who specializes in national security and foreign affairs. He has reported from Ukraine, which is a finalist for the 2024 Digital Publishing Award, and won the RTDNA award for enterprise journalism for his reporting from Afghanistan in 2022. His coverage from Syria was a finalist for the Canadian Journalists Association award in 2019. In 2018, he won the Edward R. Murrow Award for Investigative Journalism. His magazine article about Sierra Leone's child soldiers, “Guerrilla Girls”, was awarded the Amnesty International prize. He has also won the South Asian Journalists Association award for his coverage of the Sri Lankan civil war and his Saturday Night article “The Terrorist Next Door” was a finalist for the National Magazine Award and was made into a television movie. Stewart Bell has a Master of Journalism degree from Carleton University and joined Global News in 2017.

Broke On: Friday, 03 May 2024 Three Indian men, identified as Karanpreet Singh, Kamalpreet Singh, and Karan Brar, have been charged with the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada. Nijjar was a Canadian Sikh leader advocating for an independent Sikh homeland (Khalistan), which led to diplomatic tension between Canada and India. The RCMP believes others may be involved, including potential Indian government involvement. All three suspects are Indian nationals who entered Canada on student visas and are believed to have been working at the direction of Indian intelligence when they shot Nijjar in June 2023.
