Vanessa Friedman is the fashion director and chief fashion critic of The New York Times since 2014. She focuses on fashion as an expression of political, social, and cultural identity at a specific moment in time. Vanessa examines how designers translate that into products for all of us on the runway, as well as the evolution of fashion into a part of pop culture and its influence on the larger business of fashion. Prior to joining The Times, she spent 11 years at the Financial Times and has won multiple awards for her fashion writing. Vanessa graduated from Princeton University with a B.A. in history and adheres to The Times' extensive ethics policy.
