Courtney Spinelli

Courtney Spinelli is an experienced journalist who has made a career out of reporting on important stories and helping those impacted by crime. She currently serves as a reporter for WGN News, having joined the team in November 2022. Prior to this role, Courtney spent two years at FOX59 and CBS4 News in Indianapolis, where she was a reporter and fill-in anchor. During her time there, she focused on stories involving violent crime victims and volunteered to help survivors of domestic violence in her free time. She also served as an affiliate reporter for the Indy 500 race. Courtney's work has been recognized with multiple awards, including an Emmy nomination for coverage of several major breaking stories and an Edward R. Murrow award for Overall Excellence in journalism. Before Indianapolis, Courtney worked as an investigative reporter and weekend evening anchor at the NBC affiliate station in Davenport, Iowa. There she earned another recognition for her continuing coverage on litigation following a deadly explosion at a food processing plant. Courtney began her career in the Boston area as an assignment editor at the FOX affiliate, earning an Emmy nomination in 2017 for her contribution to an investigative report on ambulance and staffing shortages in Boston's EMS division. A native of the Boston area, Courtney is passionate about helping others pursue justice. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication with a concentration in broadcast journalism from Worcester State University.
