Sonic the Hedgehog is a Sega video game character and the mascot of Sega. Created by Naoto Ohshima and designed by Yuji Uekawa, Sonic first appeared on June 23, 1991 in the video game Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis. Since his creation, Sonic has become one of the most recognized video game characters of all time and has been featured in over 70 video games that have sold over 920 million copies. In addition to this, there have been numerous comic books, a successful movie and various other merchandise featuring the iconic blue hedgehog. The character is known for his speed and positive attitude which has remained consistent throughout his many appearances in different games and media.
