Jim Axelrod,

Jim Axelrod is a chief correspondent and executive editor for CBS News' 'Eye on America' franchise. He has been honored with several awards for his investigative journalism, including a Peabody Award and an Edward R. Murrow award. Axelrod joined CBS News in 1996 and has covered a range of domestic and international stories, notably the war in Iraq and the American invasion of Afghanistan. He was the first television journalist to report live from Baghdad's Saddam International Airport after it fell to U.S. troops, and he covered the departure of U.S. troops from Iraq in 2011. Before joining CBS News, Axelrod worked at various local news stations including WRAL-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina; WSTM-TV Syracuse, New York; and WUTR-TV Utica, New York. He began his career at WVII-TV Bangor, Maine. Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Axelrod graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts in history and from Brown University with a Master of Arts in history.
