Chris Tye
Chris Tye is a weekend evening anchor and political reporter at CBS 2. As a native of Oak Park, he has been honored with multiple Emmy Awards and The Edward R. Murrow Award. Chris anchored CBS 2's coverage of the 2022 Highland Park mass shooting, and his reporting since joining CBS 2 in 2019 has led to law changes and policy modifications by the State of Illinois. He broke the story of foster children being shackled by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, resulting in new legislation to make those practices illegal. When he revealed that the state's unemployment office was mailing resident's Social Security numbers to strangers during the pandemic, the Illinois Department of Employment Security reversed its policies to protect residents. Chris extensively covered the unrest of 2020 and both the Biden and Trump campaigns in 2020. He helped anchor and provide analysis for CBS 2 and CBS News Chicago on election night. Chris graduated from John Carroll University in Cleveland, working as a reporter and anchor at stations in Traverse City, Grand Rapids, and Cleveland before returning home to Chicago with his wife. They have one child and live on the city's North Side.
