Alex Cabrero

Alex Cabrero is an experienced journalist who has been reporting for KSL since 2004. Based in Salt Lake City, he has covered a range of high-profile Utah stories such as the Crandall Canyon mine collapse, the Trolley Square shootings, and the Susan Powell missing person case. Additionally, Alex has reported on national and international stories with Utah connections like Hurricane Katrina, California wildfires, Haiti earthquake disasters, and Nepal earthquake disasters. He has covered seven Olympics for KSL: 2008 Beijing, 2012 London, 2014 Sochi, 2016 Rio de Janeiro, 2018 PyeongChang, 2020 Tokyo, and 2024 Paris. Alex has received numerous awards for his work from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Utah Broadcasters Association. Before joining KSL, he reported on significant events such as the September 11th terrorist attacks, Afghanistan war preparations, and Johnny Cash's funeral. He has worked at various television stations including WTVF in Nashville, WRCB in Chattanooga, KPVI in Pocatello/Idaho Falls, News 55 in Twin Falls, and Cable 6 TV in Middletown. Alex is originally from Rock Hill, New York. He holds degrees from Orange County Community College and the State University of New York at New Paltz. In his free time, he enjoys visiting national parks, exploring Utah's remote areas, and playing baseball for the Utah Rockies in the Utah Men's Adult Baseball League. Alex is also an Eagle Scout, a former college baseball player, and a volunteer firefighter/rescue SCUBA diver for the Rock Hill Fire Department.
