Stephanie Vermillion is a freelance journalist and photographer covering travel, adventure, and astrotourism for Outside. She spent much of her 20s working and studying abroad, with months-long stints in Morocco, Tanzania, Ireland, England, and Italy. In 2018, she left the 9-to-5 agency world to pursue a travel-writing career that’s included reporting and photographing for Outside, National Geographic, BBC Travel, Vogue, and Travel & Leisure among other outlets. Stephanie’s work has taken her around the world; from camping on the Greenland Ice Sheet during a snowstorm and aurora hunting from the remote northern shores of Isle Royale National Park to monitoring nesting leatherback turtles alongside Indigenous conservationists on Panama’s Caribbean coast. As an avid aurora hunter and astrophotographer, Stephanie builds her travels around after-dusk adventures.
