The identification was based on unique footprints found in the city of Araraquara, in the Botucatu Formation. The footprints were first discovered in the 1980s by Italian priest and paleontologist Giuseppe Leonardi. The dinosaur was a small carnivorous animal, approximately the size of a modern-day seriema bird, and lived during the early Cretaceous period.
