At approximately 4:33 p.m., multiple calls were made to emergency services reporting an active shooter situation on Crestline Drive in Crete. Upon arrival, local law enforcement found that the shooting had taken place at a residence where about fifteen people were present.
The suspect, identified as Billy Booth, was a 74-year-old resident of the neighborhood. He reportedly opened fire from inside his house and shot seven individuals, including four children. The victims ranged in age from three to forty-three years old.
Preliminary investigations suggest that all rounds fired by Booth came from within his house. There were reports of prior verbal contact between Booth and some of the victims' families, where he had made derogatory comments towards them.
The shooting remains under investigation with a potential racial motivation. The Nebraska State Patrol, Crete Police Department, and other local authorities are working to gather more information about the incident.
Three of the injured individuals were adults and four were children. Six of the victims were transported to hospitals for treatment, while one victim sought medical attention later on.
The suspect was found dead inside his house with a self-inflicted gunshot wound shortly after law enforcement arrived on the scene.
Bolduc said that there had been previous complaints from Booth about the victims' driving behavior and improper parking. He also reportedly made derogatory comments towards some of the Hispanic victims, telling them to 'speak English' and 'go back where you came from'.
The shooting scene has since been cleared, but investigators continue to gather evidence from Booth's house to help determine a motive for the incident.
