Florida's Jac Caglianone Makes History with Ninth Consecutive Home Run
Jac Caglianone, the University of Florida baseball standout, made history on April 19, 2024, by hitting a home run in his ninth consecutive game. The feat ties the NCAA record set by Tyler Bosetti from Nevada in 2021.
Caglianone's impressive streak continued during Florida's game against Vanderbilt at Hawkins Field in Nashville, Tennessee. In the top of the sixth inning, Caglianone hit a solo shot to right field, extending his record-breaking run.
The two-way player has been on a tear this season. He currently leads Division I with 23 home runs and is batting .407/.497/.860. Caglianone's power at the plate is undeniable, as evidenced by his impressive slash line and the fact that he has hit more homers against left-handed pitchers (16) than any other player in Division I.
Caglianone's performance on the mound has also been noteworthy. He has made eight starts, going 4-0 with a 3.89 ERA and compiling 49 strikeouts in just 39.1 innings pitched.
Despite Caglianone's impressive streak, Florida lost to Vanderbilt with a score of 5-2. The Commodores scored two runs in the first inning due to a dropped ball at third base, and Florida struggled to keep up despite Caglianone's heroics.
Head coach Kevin O'Sullivan expressed disappointment about the team's performance and finding ways to win, despite Caglianone's historic streak. The Gators will look to rebound in the series finale against Vanderbilt on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET.
